My uncle made one of those for himself.

They do actually work pretty well!

He used to use it to rough stuff out on the wood lathe though...

Don't quite get the cold sweats on thinking about that any more but he has been dead for a few years now. Definitely a combo for the "Tools that scare you" thread!

I brought one of those Arbortech things back from Oz, it would eat your house if it broke free

I lent it to the s-i-l of my best pal for a job, never saw it again and when tackled about it he denied he'd ever had it.........

I have a few of those Arbortech wheels left in stock for back-gouging out ally welds when the Wind Farm boats were being thrown together locally. I'd love to clear the stock down a bit as they never sold well (Human resources in most big outfits are frightened to death of the potential for personal injury with the things, can't say I blame them) We had to put them out on Metabo 5" grinders with a 2 second brake, safety clutch, full guard, auto-balancer and paddle trigger that went off if you let go of the tool and even then they weren't keen. But they remove a lovely radiused kerf very quickly and efficiently, great for weld prep. Or bowl carving, whatever floats your boat as it were.

Maybe he then modified the petrol chainsaw into an angle grinder ?
After having a chain come off a saw, luckilly it missed "flesh", I have the utmost respect for them and never take risks.

I use the milling and the cutting blades with the tungsten tips, solid steel disc, however on a penumatic grinder 5". If you have the air supply yes they remove metal very well, quickly and leave a lovely finish. In the wrong hands or blades not attached propperly F^^^^^G dangerous
