Although she was positively huge at 4' 11½", I was impressed by the ex Air Transport Auxiliary pilot I met at the opening of a local museum some years ago. She bemoaned the loss of her treasured custom-made cushion!
She flew everything from Spitfires to Lancasters - always alone.

She insisted on the ½", but that was when she was a mere slip of a gal. Age had stolen that and a few more sizable fractions.

I can't think of a better job than flying a Lancaster, on my own (because I'm Billy No-Mates), and not having people try blast me to oblivion while I'm doing it.
The above person had the former, but on many occasions had the latter as well.
