OK, here we go. Eland mig, anyone know them? Thanks. It looks the same as the old Murex 160. the Eland does have a wire feed motor that looks like the starter motor from a car. There are so many companies that have mad welders over the years I am not surprised some of them fell.

I have an Eland 320, very robust been used in my fab shop for last 7years. I did manage to break the spool pin a couple of years ago, but apart from that it's been faultless. Probably why they went bust!

They didn't go "bust", but sold out to US company, Eland Cable division still exists.

They are marketing in the uk again under the name 'Classic mig'. If you look at a new machine the only difference seems to be the wire reel is the other way up, putting the torch connection at the top.

Eland didn't go bust nor did they sell out to a US company, they simply pulled out of the welding supply industry due to repeated huge losses.
They are indeed being sold in the UK again under the brand 'Classic Mig' and I have started stocking them. I sold S**t loads of ElandMigs & had very, very few problems - I still have circuit boards in stock for them, unsold after almost 10 years!!

You need a website, I did a search for classic mig and only came up with two suppliers. Apart from the wire reel is the rest of the machine the same, do your boards fit the new one?

The later Eland models changed the wire feed position from the bottom to the top & improved the feed assembly. The latest models have changed slightly, mainly dropping the bullet proof rectifier diodes in favour of a more conventional, aluminium plate rectifier. This is acceptable, as most manufacturers now use that type of rectifier. Other than that they are more or less the same. Circuit boards look the same.
My only gripe with the ElandMigs was a very sensitive wire feed control, it had to be just right or you wouldn't get a smooth run.
