Some will have seen my posts in another thread about the cave being re-roofed.
The young [well, young to me, I'd guess mid thirties] local chap who's doing the fitting was here today and we got chatting as he worked. Turns out he's a car enthusiast and has 12 cars at his place, inc Ford RS2000, XR3i and others I forget , but all 'proper' [i.e. in my book, enthusiasts] cars.
Among them he mentioned an Astra GTE, so I asked MK1 or MK11? "Two" he answered. "Oh, says I, I used to have one of those years ago...a great car".
"Yes, I remember it" he said and rattled off the reg number [E700 ASA] I can remember quite a few of the registrations of my previous cars from over the years, but for him to....well, that's exceptional in my book. Turns out he'd, in his words, "drooled over it" as a kid and since it's at least 25 years since I sold it he be could only have been 8 - 10 years old at the time.
A smashing young chap, doing it the right way by working hard at all sorts to support his wife and kids, in addition to running his Mother's croft. There's hope for the human species yet.
