Shouldn't they be used on stainless?
I like stainless rods but they are expensive and there are better option for regular steel.

Something weird I've noticed.
I can't run 7018 on AC but I can both dcep or dcen
6013 are far the most difficult rods to run properly for me
It's kinda weird I know but sometimes they just make me mad

I use em for dissimilar metals or where I don't know what it is or, for example, I just welded up Alvaro's scythe blade again. Last time I thought I was clever using my flux core to do it but it must have been too brittle. This time I went at it with the 312s and it looks to have done a great job. I still have some tidying up to do on it - when I have the armour and courage to get the die grinder out.

Probably your AC welder doesn't have enough volts for 7018
Prefer a 6013 for tacking up, 7018 is hard to restrike and I haven't got the technique right yet.
309 or 312 are a nice rod but too expensive for general use.
