over here this was a few years ago otherhalf father built a kit car but was allowed to use the original reg of the doner car as he used the engine chasie and runing gear if he had changed the engine it would have been a q plate that had to have a test before going on the road after its was on the road he could do with it swap anything he wanted for repaires so differant engine

He seems to be into his cars too but it's the closest to a drama/fluff free car resto programme we'll get on TV imo

I watch a few on YouTube, tend to be one man operations. Two of them bring back old VWs the other two bring back old amuricaan cars back to running. Body work doesn’t bother them tooo much, number plates riveted over holes cures all! It’s entertainment, I don’t take it seriously.

Youtube is where its at now, you can just watch people working on projects. I have been following the guy in the video below. He comes across as nerdy, but he is good at what he does. All the fake drama filtered out.

Drew Pritchard on the Salvage Hunters classic car spin off is another plonker - the main guy is fine, Pritchard just talks nonsense. I did enjoy the one where he went to France to buy a Range Rover and banged on about how it was so genuine and original though. Got home and turned out it had panels from about 3 different models lol.

Another vote for Tim being a ****, fake drama and parts 'blagging' do nothing at all for the show. It's an interesting concept but I suppose it has to try to appeal to a wider audience than just petrol heads. As a previous poster said Wayne Carini from ccc seems to put out about the most interesting and least stupidity of all the car programs.

Not that bored. Those old bronco's, crappy or not, are built like tanks. My buddy had one that was a beast. I'll have to have a look on youtube, hope the video is not a snoozer.

What I do like about the 60s and 70s american muscle cars is they basically remove the front panel and radiator, pull the engine and transmission out then a brand new 800hp v8 arrives on a pallet and they just wheel it into position, not much rust to contend with so a respray and a new set of wheels and away they go.

I used to quite enjoy "American Hotrod", for me that was the pioneer of fake drama, fake deadlines and general over-the-top behaviour. Some parts of it were pretty interesting, once the drama queens were out of the way. But it went a bit sour when they found a perfectly decent old car to modify, and revved and revved the original engine until it blew up, just because they were going to replace it with something new. A lot of the stuff they were making wasn't to my taste, but enough of it was interesting (fabrication and so on) to be worth watching.

Relevance to thread: I seem to recall that Boyd was done for effectively creating new cars (usually there were a new chassis, new drivetrain, new interior) but passing them off as old, and it did for the business once they'd taken all the other cars into account. A bit silly, doing all that work on popular TV when you're seemingly not going to register them properly afterwards.

100% Agree. Jay has some truly fantastic stuff. Another good one is Hagerty's Barn find hunter with Tom. Again no fake rubbish, just mooching around peoples sheds seeing what they have hidden away.
