I've worked at Komatsu (when they took over the old JCB factory outside Newcastle), also Emico who later became Tamrock (the people who built armoured people carriers to go down pits, diggers, they also made the giant mole that dug the channel from the UK side).

Anyone who can smuggle a DIY digger kit made up of 1/2" steel plates (yards long and weighing more than a car) is wasting their talents working in a factory

You e clearly never worked for bae systems. Some of the stuff I’ve seen go walkabout is incredible

I remember reading about a chap at either JCB or Caterpiller that was steeling parts to order, he even had his own Ebay shop set up for selling and custom orders.

Took them years to find out (believe it all came to light after a random stock take).

I've got an ECU that's found it's way to UK customs and is now "lost", managed to get all the way from America and failed at the last hurdle..

Back in the 70’s there was a person prosecuted who built a Jaguar I think it was, from stolen parts, a bit at a time. He got caught when he tried to register it, he made up a chassis number in the right sequence, but the person in the licensing dept spotted it as a duplicate. I think that was the story, long time ago!
