Am I using the right sort of fan?

Just had the ventilation fan above my shower enclosure fail for the second time.
Both fans were described as mix flow which I take to mean a mixture of air & water vapour.
Now that the second has failed within short order, I am beginning to wonder if I’m using the right sort of fan.
Anybody shed light on whether this is the right type of fan to use.

Mixed flow means air flow in axial and radial direction in relation to the shaft, whether it's fit for your purpose you would have to look Into, if they are failing quickly I'd say not

Well that's cleared that up. Both fans were described as suitable for bathroom ventilation, maybe the quality wasn't there but they weren't particularly cheap.

Take it back if it's failed that early meybe a faulty batch

I see what you mean, one of their in-line fans looks physically identical to the unit I have fitted.

Lets put it this way all the ones I've come across are generally at the other end of the bathroom. Rather than directly above the shower!

The reason it’s above the shower is it’s problem getting to an outside wall. I was hoping somebody might be able to tell me if the fan units are sealed against moisture.

if its directly above the shower ceiling mounted it must be 12 volt. if its an in line fan in the attic that's ok at 240v just make sure there is fall on the pipe otherwise it will fill with water. fit one of these very high flow 2 speed https://www.screwfix.com/p/manrose-...gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=COj09Mf4h9oCFc7jGwod2vEORQ

The fan is in the loft space & vents out through the Upvc roof soffit to get round the outside wall access.

The one shot thermal fuses are nearly always the culprit, especially if there is insulation piled round the fan, someone forgets to turn the bathroom light off or it's a hot summer.
I have repaired 3 of these now and they are in my odds and sods pile, originally rescued from roof spaces where the electrician had fitted a new one and left the old
You can either bypass the thermal fuse or if your lucky, fit a replacement for <£2.
I plan to use mine in the new workshop as fume extractors.

We have one of them in the bathroom and one of these in the shower room of the loft conversion. https://www.airflow.com/Categories/pg_QUIE/QuietAir-Range they were both installed four years ago. Only complaint would be the icon gathers dust and fluff in the iris which needs cleaning every year or so else the blades become slow to open and close.
