Form memory co2 pub gas is hard to know how much you got left

The problem with CO2 is that it is liquified, and so maintains approx 50 bar until all the liquid has boiled off and then it drops like a stone. Other gases, including CO2 mixes, are pressurised gas and the pressure drops uniformly as the cylinder empties.

Weighing the cylinder, and subtracting the tare weight, is the only way. If you keep the regulator on, add its weight to the tare figure before subtracting, and make sure the attached tubing doesn't affect the measurement, by keeping the tubing slack and horizontal to the regulator.

Think you will find it's about 9kg's of CO2 in a pub cylinder.
Now you have the fun of getting a refill.....

Think there now called building sites round this part of Bristol.
Within two miles of where I live over the past 8 years there have been 10 or 12 pubs closed and bulldozed, then houses or flats built.
Problem with that is even the suppliers to the pub industry are going/tightening up so not as easy to get CO2 now.

Think there now called building sites round this part of Bristol.
Within two miles of where I live over the past 8 years there have been 10 or 12 pubs closed and bulldozed, then houses or flats built.
Problem with that is even the suppliers to the pub industry are going/tightening up so not as easy to get CO2 now.

Was discussing this with Mrs Robo tonight, we have no pubs within walking distance, but there were 4 a few years ago

Ironic that the two pubs remaining in that two miles were (and Ive no doubt still are) the roughest pubs this side of Bristol. The ones that were forever being closed / change of management due to fights (and drug dealing) then reopened to carry on as business usual...

Beer and wine merchants sell it plus aquatic shops.

Youl get a better weld from argon blend mix and it’s worth the extra cost to buy and bottle and get it refilled for £30 odd quid it costs

ok update i was up early this morning as i do have times of insomnia not that often but seam to happen in boughts of a week or so then a few weeks of sleeping fine

any how had a look at the bottle and found 14.5 kg on the bottle marked up weighed the bottle with the reg on and thats 16.4 kg
removed the reg and its 15.3 kg

so i know the reg and hose is 1.1kg and the weight of the bottle is 14.5 kg so there is 0.8 kg left in the bottle so theres aprox 15 percent left

and for next time i can weigh the bottle with the reg on as i have marked 1.1 kg on the reg

looking like i will need to get another in the new year a quicvk cheak online the bloke is still there so with good luck i should be ok and with the litte left hope i got enought if i got a little idea for a small job i dont know how long .8 kg will weld for

Blow some warm air on the cylinder to gassify it.

What I do with the propane cylinders on our camper van, weigh them when I get them full & mark it on the bottle with felt tip. When we come back from a trip, reweigh it & remark, that way we know straight away how much gas there is & how much we've used. I know the tare weight is stamped on the bottom if needed, but just makes it easy. This method can easily be used on CO2 cylinders as well.

Where are you getting your CO2 if you don't mind me asking ? As would you believe it but done spot of welding over xmas and bottle ran out doh...

Fire extinguisher company were useful for refilling pub gas bottles. Testing them as well. Not sure that's the case now. When asked, it was for the home brewing setup ;-)

ok update new bottle delivered today so up and running

just for any one that needs a check a good bottle with pressure if you open it with no regulater on you should see a white mist after opening the valve if not the bottle is getting empty (having a chat with the bloke that delivered )
