Considering buying a Navara, 2.4 Turbo D All the extras, Chassis has cracked, failure sheet (Major defects) says: Cab or Chassis has excessive corrosion, within 30cm of a cab mounting on both offside and nearside rear, these are the worst, it also has, in no particular order: Leaf springs both near and offside rears seriously weakened, both front coil springs fractured, Drive shaft CV boot split, no longer serviceable, mirror insecure, headlamp inoperable, fuel tank insecure, service brake lagging in operation front offside, Service brake excessively fluctuating offside front and nearside rear then one I don't understand: Engine mil inoperative or Indicates a Malfunction? Then a whole load of minor fails, number plate light, windscreen washer etc. etc.

The vehicle is on an eleven plate and the bodywork and interior are sound and look good. That's all it has going for it. Oh it also has a roof rack. and it is cheap. Am I being delusional if I think I can take it on and fix it?

The D40 was a decent pick up apart from the chassis rot and snap….have a good ratch round facebook using the search…”Nissan Navara snapped Chassis”. There is lots of info. Nissan came up with an external skeleton to weld on but the were never released as an official spare. Many were scrapped after being bought back by nissan. You could get laser cut reinforcing plates, but might not be big enough depending on the corrosion. They go just under the back end of the cab on the double cab models. Mine was a king cab, so easier to add plates once the tub was off. I had the plates but with COVID pick up prices used were daft so got a good price for it before I added the plates.

There was a place in Halifax or nearby doing a galv chassis swap on them with reinforcing, but doubt they still are.

Id avoid if I were you, unless you are desperate for grief, in which case by-a Landrover

Me too, I've stopped at "chassis cracked" then the title itself and my experience with the 126P made out the answer.
@northwest leave it where it is, might be worth some money but not the time needed to fix it

Just stop here it's everything you need to understand it's not worth a penny or a second of your time

At this point a rational person would understand it's gone and again not worth a second of your time

So not even a parachute to reduce the loss as all the parts you might think to sell once overwhelmed with the repair work you will get sick of it

Honestly seen my experience with my 126P I can tell you that it's just a waste of money time and headaches.
It will make you sick, you'll end up putting money on it and you'll always find something new that needs to be addressed and it usually happens after you already have put too much money on it and you can't leave it .
Run till you can, but run fast, like mack 3 speed.
Leave it you'll find another one in better shape and without all those jobs to do on it

wow , well if you have absolutly nothing to do for two months , like getting rust in your face /hair etc , then after all thewelding which is always at least 50 % worse than you think you have to start on the mechanics which will be as rusted as the chassis , now your into extra time because well the rust took longer than expected ..honestly from what you described pay more get better .

I wouldn't be taking it on. Used cars are worth nothing and it would be easier to pick one up that has had a better life.

My new car was free with no rust or major issues. Just making the cooling fans work has taken me a few days, the misfire similar and it needs £1k of service bits. Even for me I was wondering if it wouldn't have been sensible to spend an extra 1k and pick up one in current use.
