Couldn’t agree more. I too have a smart meter which takes readings allegedly every hour. Apart from the issue of my supply company not taking by Direct debit the amount I think they should, why is the tariff across the day constant. I used to work in a private power station & whilst electricity we generated during the day fetched a fair price, at night we virtually couldn’t give it away. Why don’t smart meters offer different tariffs across the day?At the start of the winter Scottish Power had about £400 of my money and at the end I owed them £4, they sent me an email the other day saying they are increasing my payment by £16 a month from July. What I can't understand is now we have a smart meter for gas and electricity why can't they just take the requisite amount every month ?

new tarrifs are coming if they can force enough people to have them fitted in there property
the day price is gonna be expensive but the night price is gonna be standared tarrif to get people to use gear at night than during the day
the house fires will increase dryers and washing machines fires that is and then theres your electric car that needs charging at night
They are using some pretty low methods to get people to install them. My dad had several letters asking him 'to confirm the date they will install his smart meter'. I told him to ignore them, there is nothing booked, they are merely fishing/pressuring people. He was worried about it, mentioned it every time I visited him, but when 'the day' came, and nobody turned up he seemed quite relieved.
Eventually he did have them fitted, at his request, but that was really to save him the hassle of having to go crawl around and take the readings himself.
British Gas took four attempts to fit a working 'smart' gas meter though, which is another story of epic incompetence on their behalf.
I have been told that the whole deal with them is so they can charge various price bands depending on individual peoples use, but my electric consumption is pretty minimal, so cant see much point myself.
