Fingers crossed at it will keep the wife happy
I brought a spool gun on eBay last week and arrived yesterday looks the part but gotta organize some argon gas to use it with now.
don't think you will have much luck on the welding the bumpers the alloy is only a cover not a bumper not sure if it's even alloythanks Doubleboost, as informative as ever, you make that look fairly easy to do and at least I know what it should look like next time I attempt to do some proper mig welding of aluminium as Ive only been playing with bits of scrap so far.......
.....I only want to do one job and thats to weld up some triumph vitesse bumpers so they are one piece (front and rear) and ditch the over riders on my Triumph herald when I rebuild it. here a piccy pulled off the web to show where Im going.

Better to hone the skill on a bog standard mig machine and, then do a few runs on a synergic with pulse, or double pulse, to really appreciate the difference.
Similar example welding carbon pipe in position, 6 to 12 with bog standard mig plant. Change to STT, 12 to 6, where lack of pene is nigh on impossible!
Start at the bottom, work your way up, this includes old tech, moving to new tech. Although the latter two are very cost prohibitive.
I guess it is all down to type of work one does of course and, it does have it's uses. I can tell you, our Trident deterrent have internal alloy components, mig welded!
Synergic plant are really good, lay down a stack of dimes one would think was tig welded!
