Aluminium Spool Welders

How is it that the mig spool welder attachments can weld aluminium using the DC output of a Mig welder but you can't DC tig weld aluminium?

I tried a Google search but no hits.

You can dc tig aluminium, but on electrode +ve which melts the tungsten rather than the workpiece... mig is DCEP too.

Thanks - that answers the question. It only works with mig because there is no electrode to get eaten up. Wonder if anyone will make a Multi Process AC TIG and MIG machine. All of the mult process machines including mine seem to be MIG and DC TIG.
