A Chalwyn valve is what the valve on the intake is called, youd also need a spark arrestor on the exhaust too!
Gas detectors would also be in place local to the machine to alert the operator of the presence of gas at say 20%LEL, well before you get the big bang.
Some sites would require your engine powered kit to be tied into their shutdown system too.
This would all be managed under the site control of work system.
There are some places where hot work must be carried out within pressurised habitats, others where the plant needs to be shutdown and depressured before you strike an arc up. It can be a big costly decision to shut down some oil and gas process plants, so a huge decision, that will need to be justified. One place I worked it was a 35 million a day hit, in revenue.
When you are the responsible person to say yes lets weld that, today, it can raise a fair bit of interest from those above, so one needs to have all the ducks in a row to answer awkward questions. Other places are more blazae about it, until it goes wrong!
