Aluminium oxide crystal paste ?

Does any body recognise , or know the correct name of the stuff i'm after,It increases the friction between two surfaces and acts in a locking action,Ie' can be used under a nut to prevent it coming loose from vibration etc, A mate of mine in the RAF said they used it on some of the aircraft components, Hoping somebody has a name I can search for,

Why not use the traditional thread lock solutions...Loctite et al?

A google for "Friction paste" throws up stuff for locking handlebars and seatposts on mountain bikes,

There are a range of thread locking compounds intended for threaded fasteners 'Loctite' is a trade name which has become a fairly generic term (same brand the super glue is marketed under). There are various grades for different applications which vary in strength and permanence.

This "stuff I,m after,I have actually seen as part of a programme somewhere, and Like I said a friend used it in the RAF.At microscopic level the ally oxide particles are very small but the "crystals" are extremely hard and have very acute angled edges that bite into the surfaces under the pressure of whatever clamping force you are using, therefore preventing any unwanted movement,I don't have my RAF buddies number so can't give him a call.

As Paul said the bicycle world uses a similar stuff but i don't think it's aloxide based as it's designed for use primarily with carbon components. There's a huge range of anti-seize/assembly pastes available... as well as copperslip there are aluminium based ones and ceramic flavours. Google's not being particually helpful as however you phrase things "high friction" always returns hits based on the wrong properties but i'm thinking what you're after might be classed/sold as something like that... designed to aid assembly yet increase 'breakaway' torque or friction. All i can find is tables of k factors for calculating their effect on torque settings

Thanks. that liquid moly seems like the correct type of "stuff" My friend said they also use it to get a much better "grip with screwdrivers allen keys etc.Will check it out now that I'm in the ballpark.

A while back someone gave me a couple of posi drive bits with a tube of something to be used to get tricky screws out. It sounds like it must be something similar, i'll see if i can search it out for some details.
That's if i haven't chucked it out.

Diamond lapping compound will do it if you get the coarse stuff, just make sure you get water based as the lubricated/oil base will be useless for obvious reasons.
