Aluminium for pet use

Bought the youngest a pair of guinea pigs just before Easter. They have a fair sized 2 tier cage, but I'm wanting to add another tier, stairs, build in a closed shelter and maybe a few climbing type toys.

Any reason aluminium can't be used for a temperature regulated indoor area?

Aluminium reacts with urine and produces hydrogen gas but as long as the guinea pigs don't smoke I'm sure they'll be fine

I make a few veterinary things for holding animals, most of them are 316l stainless.
But that's mainly for the chemical resistance to the cleaning & sanitising chemicals used on them rather than the animals. Blood is corrosive and even worst when it's had certain chemicals injected into the blood stream but it's usually cleaned up fairly quickly..

I've seen plenty and made a few aluminium cages/trolleys/ramps for dogs out of various grades of aluminium and they have all been fine although most of them have been for cars/shows so they don't have dogs in them full time.

As for the urine, they have a thick layer of antibacterial wood shavings in the floor of all tiers which does a good job of absorbstion and cleaned out regularly...i may end up painting but not sure yet.

Stainless was a co aideration as well so may resort to that...proce wise for what I need there isn't a great difference when delivery and VAT are added

I Used to make a lot off pigeon related products, drinkers, cages breeding penns, traps all from 1050 aluminium
