On my last project I sand blasted all my parts before zinc plating. Worked fine but the parts didn't look smooth after plating because of the rough finish left by the blasting. The zinc plating plant told me next time to get the parts water blasted, which apparently gives a perfect finish, but the quote I got for water blasting was dearer than the cost of just buying new parts :/
Any other options you can think of? Will soda blasting leave a smooth surface? What about areas with deeper rust? Or electrolytic cleaning or an acid dip followed by a soda blast to remove the scale that's left behind by the acid/electrolytic cleaning?
Unless of course someone knows a small and more affordable outfit that does water blasting that I can send my parts to
