I have a shim washer that needs a haircut. It is a selective steel washer for taper roller bearing adjustment on a gearbox. I would just buy one, but they only come in a pack of 25, for £74, and I will never use the others, plus I am too tight to buy them.
At the moment it is 1.4mm thick, but need to be 1.2mm, or about .008" in the old money.
I could rub it down on a flat surface and abrasive paper, but it needs to be parallel, and I am worried that it will go wrong.
Any other suggestions how to do it accurately ?
