Ally corrosion

Ive got a liitle job to do for someone, bits from a boat.
All in ally, theres a socket affair, with a piece of heavy wall tube that goes into it by about 50mm. Spars for a handrail.

I could do with getting the two seperated, but the two are corroded pretty solidly.

Whats the best thing to stick it in, to help free it up a bit??

Bleach may do it or Hydrochloric acid is a more aggresive way

Heat usually helps, just a blow lamp played around the area a bit.

yep deffo the heat and tap with mallet option.
should be enough to break up the oxide holding em together.

Caustic soda, you can buy it from DIY shops, about 60p for a bag. Let it soak for a few minutes, but keep an eye on it.

I'd got for heat. The oxide might make enough of a thermal barrier to expand the outside tube faster. If needs be blast air into the inside tube to keep the temperature differential as great as possible.
