One of the metal lines to the oil cooler on my L200 developed a hole at the weekend. Sounds like some of the products mentioned here would of patched it up until the replacement arrives

As Vark alluded to, you need to make sure the crack doesn't spread - I would drill a very small hole at each end of the crack all the way through the sump rather than just form a dimple.
One way of repairing cracks is to drill and tap a hole at one end, screw some screwed rod into it (with Loctite), grind down, drill another hole centered on the crack and the circumference of the previous hole, more screwed rod and continue to the end of the crack. The problem here is that the screwed rod should be the same material as the sump.
