alloy and rods need help

Hi guys
Well i`m going to have a practice at tiging 7020 alloy with 5556 filler rods i will be practicing on 3 maybe 4 mm box section my question is can anyone tell me were i can purchase small amounts of this grade of box and purchase the rods i haven`t had any excperience in tiging this alloy before so any tips would be helpfull i`m gonna practice till i get it right. Oh and as far as purchasing the 7020 and 5556 rods goes i live in Wales UK, thanks.

I think 7020 only comes as plate and nothing extruded like box section.

From a welding point of view 7020 isn't really any different to other aluminium alloys, finding a local stockist may be a different story though. No idea what the score is locally to you but round my neck of the woods hollow sections are typically 6063 or 6082- 7020 would mean a special order with my local stockholders or mail order from a stockholder specialising in aerospace alloys. Either way you're probably looking at having to buy it in 5 metre lengths unless you can find a local fabricator that uses this alloy

5556 filler is probably going to be a similar story (at least it's easier to post!), none of my local distributers carry it but can get it within a day or two. Ally filler is dirt cheap but for small quantities order through a SIFbronze (google 'em) dealer as you can get 1kg as well as the usual 2.5kg packs
