Alko trailers - any good?

Where do they sit in the hierarchy of trailer quality? I'm looking at a used one and can't find any discussion.

From what I understand Alko make trailer components such as axles/hubs and hitches as opposed to complete trailers.

Agreed, never seen a complete trailer from them but their components are OK, lots of caravan manufacturers use their stuff. They donated a couple of axles for a school trailer I once refurbed years ago.

From memory the metalwork is good but drilling holes causes problems ( damages the protective coating??)

I thought they supplied trailer chassis & suspension rather than complete trailers.

Their chassis were commonly used on caravans many years ago.

Alko hitches are highly regarded in the caravan community.

Their aluminium chassis is also reported good.

Thanks all - I guess making components explains why I couldn't find any reviews of their trailers. We'll go take a look and see what it consists of/ where the Alko bits come in and I'll report back if it's interesting!

The only Alko trailers I've seen are the tiny ones you sometimes see in Halfords.

Alko make caravan chassis, axle and trailer parts which are practically the industry standard.

Alco Kober I think they are. Many years ago I picked a chassis up from them - can't recall why or what for though.

I think they also make a lot of motorhome chassis. Fiat make the Ducato with just the Fwd, engine & cab for motorhome builds - so the entire chassis & build, rear axle etc is not built by Fiat, but by Alco Kober (& presumably other specialist m-home coachbuilders).

I worked for the transport company that handles Fiat imports for the U.K. - we used to get two FWD cabs bolted back to back to deliver to the bodybuilders, you could drive them from either end, only problem was with the steering lock engaged they never steered exactly straight so were a sod for the drivers to get onto a transporter.

Quite a surprise the first time I saw them towing like that

Even worse of a surprise was the first reverse tow with the assembly between the 5th wheels !

Never had anyone asleep in the passenger seat when I've come up behind one to do the obvious . . .
