Ali Express Drone kits any good?

Hey hey, are there any drone enthusiasts on here? My son is after a drone, and I was thinking it's better to get a kit with replaceable parts that he can fix and upgrade. Are these sorts of Ali Express kits any good? Is the transmitter, receiver and battery the only thing missing in the kit ?

i got one, never learnt how to fly it, gathering dust ever since.
mine was reasonable quality, fly sky transmitter, that is sposed to be a good brand but i never got to find out how good.
could be up for grabs if your interested

I jump on with this one. the The flight range is not so important, it is the picture quality that it is capable of carrying.

Those things always escaped me, unfortunately! I’m better with the full size thing!

I could crash mine pretty well. Took it up above a car trial at the lunch break - wind caught it even with power off away it went . . . found a surprised looking sheep in a pen . . in the corner was my drone.

Local post on Christmas day - someone had bought a drone for their lad, simply had to fly it . . . and down the valley it went . . . gone. So take notice of the winds - there's no "down" other than gravity and a light one will be blown away.

My worry with buying anything from such sites would be the future spares - in 6 mths,a year, will anything still be available?

I think it's the other way around The kits are made from standardised parts, standard chassis, standard ESC, standard motors etc. It's the cheap Amazon drones for <£100 that are made as one piece and there's a risk of spares being a problem.

With the low prices at AliExpress, I thought the OP was going to buy qty (10) of them,
strap 5 to each suspender, and "Up, Up, and away".....

Just in-case . . . US to English - "suspender" = "braces".

Read into the drones topic a bit more. If the drone is over 250g then there are a lot of restrictions on where it can be flown, including being 50m away from people!

I've gone for a much smaller kit using 2.5" props to stay under 250g.

I'm also starting with the controller connected to a PC flight simulator so my boy can learn to fly first.

I was worried the c of G would be in the wrong place . . . being "suspended" upside down under a collection of drones sounded, in aerospace engineering terms, "sub-optimal"
