Aldi varaible speed angle grinder fault......

Goes from slow to fast speed at random while in use,working away in it speed 1 then all of a sudden it kicks into turbo(top speed).
And no i'm not hitting the speed select wheel by mistake,this is a PITA and not only the 1st time its happened last ALDI one did the same,yes it was under the 3 yr warranty but you wait 3 weeks for it to return,and i need one ASAP
So,whats the problem,that speed switch perhaps?
Anyone exp the same problem?

Take it back to store, with receipt if possible, and they should swap it.

Done it a couple of times with other bits and pieces

They dont take it back at the store,have triad that,you have to send it off to the makers,with the warranty slip and receipt explaining whats wrong with it,Aldis dont keep them in stock as such

If i take the chance and dont send it back,would it be an idea to say upgrde the speed selector,this something thats available?
See i need the low speed for sanding/buffering etc..................i suppose at the end of the day it might be best to buy something a bit better

I'm pretty sure you can ask for a refund, instead of accepting a repair/replacement.

Think i'll ring before i try that,its a 20 mile trip to my nearest aldi see what the score is.
Wouldn't mind so much as its a ballsy grinder that can take a beating,its just that speed control that lets it down

It will probably be a loose wire or dry joint on the speed controller. The fact that it's intermittent points to something fixable.

The retailer is responsible for the warranty and you should not have to send it to the manufacturer/distributor.

Your contract was with the store.

Yer i'll take it apart in the morning and have a look around,knowing i haven't a clue what to look for
As for your point about the warranty,i came across this

3rd one down,did it last time and it take an age
So warning to all,it might have a 3yr warranty but if it goes breast upwards after 60 days just swallow it and bin it oh well C'est la vie

A mate of mine bought a car tyre compressor ( one of the decent ones that sell elsewhere for about five times the price) that packed in a month or so later, he took it back to the store, they took details and sent him a new one through the post, And he got to keep the old one. A quick fiddle and wiggled the wire a bit and the duff one started working fine, Good result, he now has one for each car,

Don't mess with it, its a disposable item made to last a limited time. Take it back or exchange it.

contact customer services ,they wil giv u a no. , and ask which store you are taking it back to , they wil contact them ,so you hand it over and get a full refund, took back my belt sander no questions.
