Seen it, but no cigar
I saw one sold this morning. Not me, you understand. Not even a 'friend'. Buyer looked like a local service guy (judging by his little white van). He also bought 3 reels of wire, gloves and helmet (so not a pro then). I guess if the machine lasts for four reels before popping off this mortal coil (no doubt passing the cost on to his customers) then its not a bad deal. Perhaps if that side of the business develops then he'll be in the market for a pro-quality MIG.
Odd (in an ironic sense) that they don't sell the other disposable items (tips, shrouds, liners, etc). Have we really reached the stage of "disposable welders"?
I went for the apron and the clamps on the basis that the clamps are handy and, for the price, disposable, and the apron'll save my trousers from weld spatter. That, and "leather apron and shiny steel clamps" sounds kinda kinky....

Exactly what I thought. A tool (especially a MIG) is no good if you can't get consumable spares for it. They may well accept the same tips & shrouds as other common makes but I seem to recall seeing that same machine under another brand: 'Alko' which is some spurious mail order jobby, with odd-ball shrouds & a horrible, non-replaceable neck assembly, sealed in with some silicon gunk.

I thought I'd made a reply to this earlier but its disappeared. Anyway I bought one from Aldi on the strength of the claim on the packaging that it is 'Ideal for welding car body panels', infact this was the first and most prominent claim on the box so I'm taking it back if its false.
The instructions with it looked quite good and had good advice too.

It's just the way ALDI special buys operate. They probably won't carry the welders for another year and then only if they sold well this time and won't carry consumeables at all. I bought one but haven't used it yet so can't comment on its abilities but it seems well made. It's distributed by Omega Wolf and the box contains an order form for spares/consumables and contact details, plus omega wolf have a web site with contact details.

Bought 2 packs of gloves and 2 aprons. I've bought power tools from Aldi and quite honestly you get what you pay for. My corded drill broke, the switch burnt out and the drill stayed on, it was quite torquey as well so had to hold it with one hand and unplug it! My bench drill idler pulley seized and the motor mount bent pulling the pulleys offline and burning the belts out. The angle grinder's still in use but the spindle lock button fell out. The reciprocating saw hasn't had much use and so it's still ok at the mo. The only thing I'd say is that I do abuse my kit, there's nothing in the instructions saying it's ok for you to drill 25mm holes in 10mm plate

how well do those clarke floorstanders go, im in the market for pillar drill and the clarkes are a good price, I have a £200 clarke bandsaw which is ok and a £180 clarke cement mixer, which once set up correctly is fine. they do the job and thats it, a bit no frills really.

I'm quite pleased with mine, (CDP351RE). seems reasonable quality, not the best but for the price I think it's ok.
