I just sprayed three metal shelves with some of this stuff and it turned out grand. I wasn't expecting much, and that's all I wanted, because the shelving gets battered and worn anyway, but now they look a bit better.
I threw some black into the Aldi white to make a Dexion grey, and added about 15% white spirit to thin it, sprayed it with an HVLP bun that was running far too high, as my reg busted, but it worked.
It's good value stuff. I bought several cans of the aerosol version recently as I am repairing holes in the project car boot and as it's black the Aldi stuff is ideal on top of the primer. The only slightly annoying thing is that the paint I bought last time dried to a dull gloss, whereas this batch seems shinier. Doesn't matter as it's unseen, but I prefer the duller finish.
I have some of the tinned version too which I was saving to do the gates with.
Thought I would update on how the Aldi paint did on the gates. Well I started with the tinned Aldi metal paint - not great tbh. Was thinner than expected and didn't coat too well, almost seeming translucent in places. Took ages to do one side of the 'wrought iron' look steel gates.
I then decided to try the aerosol version. I had been saving them for the car resto but had bought quite a few so decided to sacrifice a few cans. Five minutes later I had a great looking gate with little effort. The spray had great coverage and I went over a couple of bits again once dry. Up close there is a very slight difference in appearance in that the tinned paint has a very slightly different sheen, possibly looks a bit thicker, but both sides look good.
It took a can and a bit to do one side of my drive gates so the cost of probably about £9 to do the whole gate, as opposed to a fiver for the tinned paint of which I used less than fifth.
So overall, bit disappointed with the tinned paint, but an even bigger fan of the spray paint now.
Its designed to be painted on to a rough rusty surface, It coats that quite well. what it doesnt do is coat a silky smooth metal surface. If you second coat it it will be fine though.
