Aldi Grinder heads up 12th July

just looking at the pic

is he grinding steel with a diamond blade.I could be wrong but I did not think you could uses diamond blades on steel

He's not grinding anything - the sparks are coming out the wrong way. Cutting steel is a good way of messing up diamond grinder blades. The matrix holding the diamonds gets cooked and the edges of the diamonds themselves turn to carbon and they stop cutting, but get pushed down into the softened matrix.

Incidentally if you do ever get a diamond blade that stops cutting there'sa couple of tricks you can use.

1. Turn it around. Despite having direction arrows diamond blades will work safely both directions - the arrows tell you which direction it was sharpened.

2. Take an old file and use the edge of it to gently beat the tops of the diamond segments. Don't do this whilst running the grinder. This allows the surface of the segment matrix to break-up exposing fresh diamonds with sharp edges.

I bought one of those last year, check before you buy replacement disks as I'm sure mine takes 125mm not 115mm and they do last a fair bit longer.

He should be wearing clean ear defenders too. The sparks are going in a strange direction - maybe that's how marketing people like to grind.

I've got one of them grinders..

Their sound as, I've chopped up all-sorts. One evening I found eight of them security put-up galvanised fences guarding nothing.. So I took them home one-by-one and in the morning hopped to Aldi and surprise~surprise their was a nice angle grinder!

Got half way through chopping them up and the diamond grinding disc split in half and bounced off the near wall of our house and luckily didn't chop my ear off!
*Luckily I had safety eye wear eh.. said nowt about the helmet though!

Anyway, yea the grinder is awesome I've not done any serious work for hours on end but have used it for about 20mins in one complete sitting and worked a treat.. Drove my neighbours MAD but hell I loved the noise and mentioned they should not really be having a BBQ when they know I'm grindering stuff up as it makes me hungry!

Just had to mention, the security/site fence panels.. Well them silly sods have only gone and put up something more permanent now and its allot harder for me to carry them off in the middle of the night. So I'm right up the creak if I run out of galvanised pipework!

I have also got me one of these grinders 2 cutting discs included and the ten page safety instructions but it does not state in the instructions which disc to use for cutting or grinding metal, one disc dry for stone/concrete, the other universal wet/dry must be for metal ?

That looks like the most cumbersme 4.5" grinder in the world...might be that hes just holding it back to front Unless hes a lefty of course.

Bought 6 5" blue bosch grinders a few months ago. The other week one wouldnt work unless the cord was pushed against the machine - no big issue - someones been holding the grinder by the cable, or its been kicked across the floor. Then the same happened to another, then another. Another went on me yesterday. Thats 4 out of 6 gone the same way. When they are opened up there doesnt appear to be anything loose, and the cable seems fine.

The switches are useless as well. Break too easily. Might go back to Makita, or try a Hitachi or two.

More grinders in the power tool grave yard awaiting fixing.

I did some fixing today, 3x bosch 5", and 2 110v boxes. Broken wires, the lot of em.
Down side with the Boschs is the outer insulation is quite rubbery, so stretches easily, breaking up the copper.
New cables and plugs on all or them. Very easy to replace on them, which is the upside.

That leaves, 4 rotabroaches, a 5", a 9", 2x inverter welders, a straight grinder...to fix.

Might swap the cable on one - see if that works. The cables get a lot of hammer close to the back of the machine.

cant comment on the bosch 4.5" grinders as ive never used one.I have a couple of makitas and they are brilliant as are most of there tools.
i do have a 9" bosch "green" grinder and that has worked for years ok.

The mm "clarke" 4.5" cheap grinders are exactly that...cheap!!....i was stuck on a job before and had no grinder in the van!...doh...id left it at the shop.
anyway nearby was a machine mart so i invested £23 in a grinder and it lasted 2 days with a flap disc!...total of about 1 1/2hrs use!!
Being "business minded"...tight say some!..lol.....i took it back for a refund,keeping the grinding disc of coarse for "compensation"...lol
