Hi all,
A few years ago I posted about a Ajax Horizontal Mill that was in my mums garage:
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/ajax-milling-machine.31130/
Ive finally got round today of lugging the lump up to my house, all 162.2kg
As its not been run for at least 20 years ive stripped it completely and found a few problems along the way, mainly the motor is goosed well the wiring is, but dont hold much hope for the motor. I might ditch in favour of a 3ph motor with variable speed invertor:

I put one in my Boxford lathe a few years ago.
Me and a mate lifted it between us into the van, not the best idea, was going to use the engine hoist but forgot to take the hydraulic ram with me
Back at home, engine crane built (1 minute start to finish, best crane ever!)
Stripped it down on the stand, motor and gearbox alone weighed 45kg, moved all bits into its new home ready for a clean
All ready for a new lick of paint, grease and oil!!
Ive a few questions about this machine, I know a horizontal has limited capabilities but when stripping it down and taking the arbor out I am left with this:
I took these photos when id removed the bearing end cap!
Is it possible to install a collet into this shaft so I can use end mills, drills etc? Just wondering if I can utilise the draw bar with a collet, or make a new draw bar for use with a collet system.
Ive tried searching for a manual or any info on this mill, with no luck. Theres no plate with model number etc on it, the only description is:
Its definetly something I want to learn how to use. The main reason for moving it to my house is I need to make two brake caliper brackets for my car, big brake upgrade. he bracket I need to make is very very simply good first project and the horizontal cutter will be fine for this.
Im only starting out with lathe and milling work, hopefully its something I can learn.
