Hi, I have recently bought An old (1989) turret mill, I have sorted the head which had several problems so now I am trying make the table motions work. Now I have the gearbox dismantled I have found several of the dog engagement teeth are badly worn to the point I doubt they will take any real torque without jumping out of engagement.
There are I think five dogs which are in need of attention, in each case it's only one half of the assembly which is worn, the other half is perfect, so I have a good guide of the angles to grind the faces and the size and profile of the dog teeth.
My question is:
What would you suggest as the best process to build back the teeth and what wire or rod would be ideal.
I have a BOC Autotrans 180 Mig wolder running argoshield equivelent. I also have an ESAB 180 inverter TIG - MAG set and an HF unit, which I have not yet used, like it's 30+ years since I ran a TIG weld... I am happy to brush up my TIG skills if that would be better than MIG.
I have included a couple of images so you can see what is required.
Many thanks for looking, Robert
