Decent materialI've welded a few that have rubbed through, they actually welded better than I was expecting. This is one off a mini.

I was expecting to have issues with residue in the pipe from the oil used in the ac gas but it wasn't an issue. I tig brazed a steel coolant pipe on Saturday and that was an absolute nightmare.Decent material
All the ones I have welded have been fine

what you need is someone with a Vulkan Industries lokring kit . It acts like a compression joint on the alloy pipe , we use them for tap in when adding extra evaps to vehicles , but a proper AC specialist will have one, not a job for Kwik Fit or Halfords or your gas it up merchants.
We are in a similar position. We had to remove some parts on our old Saab restoration and ended up tearing an air con pipe. I am assuming it is aluminium and was wondering if something like this kit would do the job. It's brazing, basically?
