What regulator do you have? The ones that come with the cheaper compressors are pants. The hole is too small for good air flow. Also you will want a large bore delivery hose & fittings. forget the cheapo coiled up jobby that comes with most kits.

the air grinder need a lot of power but the da should be ok .make sure your airlines short or the bore is big enough. same as the pcl fittings . theres a tremendous loss of cfm and pressure through them as well as the water seperator
Ahhh ok that would make sense then, yes Im using the crappy standard regulator and airlines that are annoyingly tangly and long. Also im on the Euro quick connect so im assuming theres plenty of flow through them.
Ill get myself a half decent reg and line then. Whats a good regulator for under £50?

dont bother with the lubricator .u need a seperate airline to use on them . 3 drops of oil before every use is suficient just a decent half inch bsp filter regulator will be fine
Oh rite i thought you needed oil all the time but like you say just lubing them up before use cant do any harm. Ive already got 1/4" fittings on my compressor so I think ill stick to them for now and see how i get on, if I need the 1/2" ill upgrade. Thanks for the info will kepp you updated.

the d.a will run no bother the air grinder is another matter
I wonder whether or not those who suggest a DA will work on such a small compressor are able to sand down entire panels, without the compressor running continuously?
Main advantage using an electric DA is that progress with be much much faster, with less noise, and of course will be a lot more powerful.

ive ran a 14cfm compressor for 30 years using air tools and a da also bead blasting gear yes the comp runs continuously whilst in use but this isnt a bodyshop where every second counts .
Well how about this. I don't care if the compressor runs continuously, the bit I'm concerned about is the DA runnning continuously, which it does.
Even if you take into account that the tool manufacturers are optimistic about how much air their tools consume, they quote 4cfm for a typical DA.
My machine (not even a nice, slow moving belt drive) does just over 9cfm (tested) - so you do the math.
I have a 200ltr 3hp 10cfm (disp) compressor, and also a 240v DA, which isnt comparable to the air one I had previously, which was really only much use for sanding relatively small areas.
Its possible to use DA air sanders with very small compressors, but in most cases blocking by hand would be quicker. For anyone who needs to do quite a lot of sanding work, then a good 240v DA is well worth it, and will save quite a fair amount of money in the long run.

I've been down the air route,i have an aldi special and an old clark 11/2 or 2hp job coupled together for the moment,air impact wrench's..d/a and grinders to be fair are a bit of a let down ,I do use them, but not like a garage or I would at work 
, i use a 2" d/a and die grinders,paint guns,joddler,shears etc off the compressors but my 6" d/a is snubbed for a 5" 240v d/a normally.My air grinder is never used ,i have 4off 240v 4" and a 9"grinders...........,impact wrench i still use a breaker bar and use the impact to spin the nuts off...I think the neighbours prefer when i don't use the compressors too...
.....A mate came around the other day to try his new compresssor out with my tools etc and to see what they run like,and compare to the same tools on my 2 compressors,it made him think carefully about what he goes and buys,and a d/a was way down the list ,off course this is down to the limitations of our compressors,

Bit of an update, i tried a new air hose and regulator and a minor improvement on the sander and 3" grinder but can both still be held by one finger, which obviously means there ist enough torque or air flow to keep them moving, think im going to leave the compressors for spraying and not air tools.
