Air tag detection

I am looking for an app on android to detect and track air tags and clones or copies, i have tried Tracker Detect but it sees nothing

Yes there is an air tag on the dog

I thought air tags needed to be within range of another phone or Ipad via bluetooth to work.

You have to manually start the scan with tracker direct,
Also, I think the trackers are only visible when they are actually in tracking mode.
Ie, if the dogs tracker is actually paired up to your wife's iPhone and that phone is in range it won't be in tracking mode.
There is something like it needs to be out of range of her phone for 10mins and within range of yours for 15mins before you can see it.

I tried messing about with them for inventory for mobile stock, thought it would be an easy way to check everything we needed was in the van before leaving but they didn't quite work like that.
For locating a dog maybe just get a tile or something and clip both on the collar if you are on android?

Its just an experiment for now but we are trying to detect air tags type devices for security reasons, i have dropped behind on such tech a while back i met a guy who a hand held device but no longer have his details.

I didn't mess about with them that much as they didn't quite work how I though they might,

I think you can only use them to locate your own stuff directly at close range (lost tv remote etc) and that needs to be done with an iPhone. Or, you need the equivalent type thing if you have an android)

There is a way to detect them (ie if you think you have a stalker or something) but I think you are limited to just finding out that one is within range of your phone. And that needs to meet certain criteria, ie, its not linked to the owners phone etc....

I suppose that makes sense otherwise I could just walk around a car park until I found a van full of trackers called 'bosch sds drill' & 'Monica's laptop'

Have you tried something basic like going into the bluetooth on your phone and seeing if the dog shows up under available devices?

Thats pretty much it, we have a few on kit and in a few of the trucks.

Only when they are not within range of the owners phone I think.
And, even then, I think the owner needs to set them to 'lost'?
They may well send the signals at all times just nothing happens with it?

Op, what do you mean by security purpose?
Are you keeping an eye on your own stuff or do you want to make sure nobody is sticking tags on stuff to find/take it later?

Yes, but I couldn't find any way to 'monitor' them on an android phone other than in limited circumstances

You can see the signal strength using something like nrf connect but the service identifiers are apple specific I think.

edit: if you mean monitor them as in an android version of ‘Find My’ to show them on a map then you won’t be able to as far as I know.

Google just announced in last few days update will detect AirTags etc

I didn't want to see them on an app or anything, I just wanted to name them 1, 2, 3, 4, (Setup done with an iphone) and use my android phone to see if 1 & 3 were in my van (with me and the phone) couldn't find a way to do it.

@hotponyshoes we want to tag our own items but also make sure we can not have items tagged to be tracked such as vehicles in storage after we take them to car shows, just trying to.keep one step ahead.

You need an apple device, to detect air tags, if someone plants one on your car for example, it will tell you.

From what I've understood.

I'm no expert, and can't comment on Android compatibility.

They have to be visible due to anti stalking laws it seems. That may be location dependent though.

Seems from what I have read here that an Air Tag can be easily detected by a person other than the owner so really if anyone sticks one onto one of your vehicles, you will be alerted to this. Not really something I would use to keep covert track of my stuff as it appears that everyone will be aware of the Air Tag.
I use a Vodafone Curve on my bike.
