Good morning Mig-Welding forum! This is my first post, I'm sure it's in the correct forum, but please do let me know if there's some rule I have broken.
A number of years ago I came across these 5l and 11l cylinders of shielding gas, what a brilliant business model I thought, saves all that faffing about with cylinder "rental" and the refill cost is not excessive. I immediately bought a 5l version and for 4 happy years merrily welded away in my garage knowing my Argon/CO2 mix was giving me better finish rather than pub gas. Huzzah!
Until this week. I tried to get a refill at my usual (not so) local dealer and they tell me the 5L versions are now discontinued, and sure enough the current Air Liquide literature only refers to 11 and a new 13.5 litre cylinder. There doesn't seem to be any part-exchange programme that I can see so I'm left with a useless empty cylinder that cannot be refilled, thrown away, upgraded or sold-on.
Has anyone else purchased these 5litre cylinders in the past and what did you do when it came to getting a refill? Did you get any notice that the cylinders were being discontinued?
