Air impact gun question

I always run guns at 90psi and use an inline auto oiler after water separators and filters.

My guns last years with daily trade use.

Too much wet dirty air over 90psi without oil. Ruins impact tools!

I only buy Ingersoll Rand guns, mostly 1/2 and 3/4 Ti models.

Well fair enough, they aren't cheap guns. I'd expect there to be an upper limit on how much extra air they'll benefit from.

Well thanks to everyone who contributed to help me fix this problem.

Going from the auto rewind wall mounted hose to circa 10ft 10mm straight hose has made the world of difference!

Tonight I have zapped off various rusted bolts from my Land Rover project, well seized stuff, without any probs at all.

Also the gun sounds different - throatier - it's definitely got more oomph.

I use a Blue Point (cheap Snap On) gun at 150 psi
This removes most things (hub nuts L Rover pulleys ect)
A gun lasts about 12 months with very hard use
As far as I am concerned they are a consumable
A squirt of WD down the port boosts the torque considerably

too much wet dirty air supplying anything would shorten its life no doubt.
but ive never regulated the air into any of my air tools and i have no oiler on the line either, and as for oiling the tools well they would get a shot of air tool oil about once a month if they were lucky and in fairness if the IR gun laid down in the morning i wouldnt fault its service up to now or begrudge buying a new one to replace it either, it has served me well.
then of course it depends on how much you would use it too, of course it id last a long time if yo didnt use it much but id have the impact guns in my hands a lot of the time, i wouldnt use it every day 6 days a week or anything but over the winter months id use them 4 or 5 days a week at different jobs so they have done well even if they are getin the full tilt of 140 psi all the time.

i used to have one half set of blue point taps here but i didnt use them much tbh but i often wondered where they lay in quality compared to their cousin mr snap on.
is that about the best description of them, cheap snap on ?, how cheap are we talking here out of interest?.

Depends, some of it is other manufacturers tat rebranded - much like the welders were with Cerbora, etc.

all my air tools get oiled at the end of use not at beginning . reason is if they have been used condensation gets in the bearings and may get left for weeks and go rusty -. so 3 or 4 drops of oil at the-- end of use and a quick run coats the internal parts ready for next use

The Blue Point guns are about half the price of Snap On
I have had Snap On guns before they last no longer than the Blue point
As I say mine get used very hard every day
As mentioned a 10 mill bore air line makes a big difference
A short "whip tube" on the gun makes it easier to handle

For around £80 Snap on will repair/rebuild their impact wrench to be like new again. Given they have a 2 year warranty why not buy one from SO, send it in for free repair twice then spend a total of £80 per year on the annual rebuild?

or sell it on facebook for more than you paid for it, thats what your soposed to do wth snapon isnt it ?

biggest upgrade to my airgun was takeing the quick connectors off, a 1/2 " port on the main airline with a 1/2" valve straight into a 10meter 10mm airline and straight onto the gun, hell that makes it go, on the downside i can only go 10mtrs with it but i have a 2nd gun on quick release

No matter what make of impact gun never use it to wind a spring compressor clamp that you happen to be holding, it breaks your thumb, how do I know because my brain died for a split second and the gun just happened to have the right size socket on it

Few years back I traded a bluepoint air gun in for the snap on mg one.Its far superior, theres been no bolt or nut I havent been able to undo or shear off yet.
