Air fed mask setup

Hi there,

I have been doing some reading for getting myself an air fed mask setup in order to paint using 2K.

Based on my reading I need :
- a compressor which does at least 7-9 CFM to run the mask.
- an air feed mask about 7 CFM.
- a 3 stage filter.

I already have the following:

- a compressor 2hp to run the gun which is rated 11.33 CFM air displacement, so probably about 7CFM air free delivery.
- a Standard regulator.
- a couple of copper wire to bring the air in the garage.
- the compressor is in a separate room behind the garage.

Here is my couple of question and idea to achieve the perfect setup regarding my DIY condition.

- I am planning to paint outside in the driveway under a "close" tent. I am wondering about the risk for the neighbour?

- The tent will be at about 7 meter from the compressor, and I will have an extra 10 M hose from the garage to the tent. Is it good?

- I am planning to respray the detachable panel (wing, door, ...) in the garage, any issue doing this?

- The small compressor is at the moment in a room behind the garage which is isolate from the garage apart from the hole made to pass the copper pipe.
I will need to push that whole with some polyurethane expanded foam in order to paint in the garage?

- As the room in the back of the garage is too small for a second compressor I was planing to build a metal box beside the garage to store/use the second compressor from the their. I will obviously connected with this other one.

- I have a shed behind the small room at the back of the garage, would it be better to store it there?

- Does the 3 stage air filter can be in the garage? and me painting in the garage at the same time?


Any recommendation on air fed mask and 3 stage air filter welcome.

Think the 2hp might struggle, her indoorses 2.5 small-tank one was being murdered on the mask, the draw is constant.

Neighbours could be a problem if they're close really and the fog can drift to them. Also the thinners stinks which can annoy folks.

The 3-stage, sure. It's the air source for the mask comp that wants to be clean air. You also need a pressure reg so a reg/water trap before the 3-stage is good, clean the air before the 3-stage so prolongs the filter life in those. Though not such an issue if you don't do loads. In the same vein some distance from comp to filters helps more water drop out, as does your copper lines & drop legs but same as before re filter life.

I got a Devilbiss mask and Kestrel filters, and Draper reg/trap with 5 micron filter. A bit painful forking out for everything, but against the cost of a job or two it soon looks good value.

Oh yeah the cost is a bit stiff, however as I have several project waiting so it is not that big, it will pay for itself at the first use and will be fun

- The neighbours are really close, their drive touch mine really. I think they will be ok on the thinner smell, the bits which is worry me the most is the iso and their health.
I would imagine that reduce the fog over spray could be the way to go ?

So I was thinking for that maybe HLVP gun will help, or even a spraying machine with HLVP gun could reduce a lot the over spray.
I saw a demonstration of a some small machine like in a DIY shop I found it very interesting I have to say.

In that way I would, get another small compressor 2hp or 2.5hp and then get a air fed mask and all.

I want to spray in the best condition I can knowing under a tent is not ideal, and I do not want to risk anybody health on this matter.

What do you think about that though?

About my cloud problem anyway as a opinion?

I will not be painting the van in 1 go anyway, as there is not enough room. I will also remove the doors as some need metal work so easier on the stand really.

so my plan is to paint one side then this other side, and the roof, in probably several days apart.

id imagine any cars nearby could pick up overspray

depends what the niebours are like really , if they kick off the council could come down like a ton of bricks on you

i think id try and time it so theyre out , or do it when its raining so they might all be inside etc

another thought ...you wont be able see in your tent after youve painted a wing
