First of all Hi, I have been reading this forum for quite a few years, and over time it has become my go-to for any advice on welding, surface prep or painting. I am an engineer and have worked on cars both (hobby and professional) since the mid-90's.
I have decided I would like an air fed mask/helmet system. It is just for hobby use these days, with which I will be mig-welding, surface prep and paint (lechler epoxy and 1K/cellulose top coat) on a galvanised car body (full restoration).
I am looking for an air-fed system. I say system, as with a bit of research it seem like an air fed mask for welding/grinding and painting (epoxy primer + 1k) all in one mask is just not going to happen....That's fine, and in which case is there a system like that will cover it all, and I then change the mask for each...? Or do I really need a weld/grind mask system, and then a separate paint system? I like the idea of the belt and the power back, I don't really want to use a compressor to supply the air.
I see that the 3m Adflo offers a "gas" filter, presumably for mostly nuisance vapour, but i believe the consensus is, that its not also good enough for painting....? What about painting non-iso paint?
I get that for the 1k cellulose, an air fed mask is considered over kill. All I can say is 25 years of working on cars (on/off) has added up, and I definitely feel like my lungs are a bit sensitive and easily irritated these days (I had a constant cough for 5+ years, funny enough now gone that I work mostly behind a desk).
