Been thinking my old auto-hat was pegging out; it was getting awkward to use and I was wondering if the battery was dying (non-replaceable), so was thinking about a new one. It was just a cheapy anyway, and bought ten years ago, but it's only really been in use the past four years. Even so, I've deffo got my money's worth out of it.
I'm reluctant to chuck stuff out that's still quite ok and not broken, so thought about getting another cheapy filter insert for it, since the price of them is dirt cheap, and use it as a spare hat. So I started taking it apart, and I found a thick film of fine smoke dust over the entire LCD and solar panel. I'd never had the front lens off before, never needed to, I thought, and it didn't actually look manky under it. From the front, it still looked quite normal.
I know where all that came from - burning all that Super6 wire. I swear they make it out of spun-dried horse turds.
Cleaned it up, tried it, and it's like a new hat now.
