Just to add suppliers also sell it due to high profit margins
Brand?I took it back and bought another make (Italian it think) and its still working fine. Who sold that Silverline junk?
That's what I think, but a while back I was doing a job miles away from home, needed a wood plane and didn't have one with me. I shot to the local T/S and purchased a Silverline no4 plane for around £12 ish. Was surprised to find that it was very sharp and pretty well set up. Anyway it did the job, and since then I've re-sharpened it, set it up, used & abused it and it's still going strongWhy do people buy this trash?
As long as you put it in the metal recycling bin, you'll still go to heaveni dont like our disposible culture to make it clear though.
...I just cut the resin tube for the last holes.
In my experience Silverline always fails.
Sh!tline tickled me.Buy cheap.
Buy twice.
Or with my last boss.
Who swore by s.hitline tools.
By 10 times.
The meters he used to buy were rubbish.
As I test.
I took five from the last order and tested them on a 12v40ah battery.
My Fluke indicated.
12.78v.
The new ones measured from 11 6v to 13.5.
With one so un-steady I could not get an average reading.
I had to buy some AF spanners earlier this year to rebuild a rotavator, bought a small set of S/line combination spanners to do the job and i cannot fault them, i don't use them professionally so in the right context they were good enough for me, they got some abuse and lived to tell the tale. I now have a few more AF ring and combination spanners (Gordon and a few other makes) given to me and yes you can tell that they are better quality but would they have done the job any better i doubt it, would they last longer probably but the cheap spanners did the job and will be put away with the other.
Sh!tline tickled me.Cheap metrology gear is even more of a false economy than normal cheap tools as you'll always be second guessing the measurements and/or scrapping parts, before you even get to buying twice.
