Agricultural welding!!

the last year i was there (harper) we had scaffolding going over the end of the pool. i can't remember what the theme was supposed to be for the ball that year.
At about 5 or 6am they decided to have a pic of all the people that were still going, with us all standing on this walkway made out of scaffolding.
BAD IDEA !!!!!
The scaffolding wasn't up to it so every one ended up in the pool or on the floor, i think 1 or 2 had to go to hospital. but i was able to keep my beer out of the water so all was well .

The forman of JKS, often give me drawings of pins bushes he wants made, with the footnote of tolarance being "Agricultural", in otherwords to the nearest 1/4"

yea 7pm til 7am, didn't go last year as i was working at Michelin, so it'll be a new one to me!! mmm scaffolding over the pool, doesn't sound the best idea, but at least the beer didn't get diluted!! The theme this year is "a night at the movies" so quite what thats going to turn out to be!

In agriculture your jokeing,..... they sell verniers and special mik's for the trade, there called rule's welders have 1 setting hot, shadow boards have just the outline of hammers, and material is cut from things in the bushes....the only people in the world to think 0.50" run out on a shaft isnt a problem, mind you I guess a DTI clock proberbly isnt hanging on the shaddow board next to the hammers......

yea i know, shadow boards...i've heard of the concept, never going to work! lol not when you see the half bedroom, half workshop that i call my bedroom! lol

Rulers ..... heard of them.. but if you set the work out with the same pair of wellies or piece of string that it was meausred with you can't go far wrong.

Iv had all sorts handed to me as mesurements,string, mugs, latest was a lipstick pen for a Rad of a pin, he said it was the Mrs but iv got me suspicions

mmm, lipstick pen, not something you have to hand when measuing something (unless your a women.....) lol I saw on grand designs a house which was all measured from an ash tree which was used as the datum!! lol

I remember that one - the windows didn't fit, and Kevin McLeod spent a lot of time pointing out that was always going to happen when you go off an ash tree for your dimensions. Damned things grow during the project!

true, depends how quick you are at building!! lol I think the two best houses were the gothic style (the carved staircase was amazing) and the hexagonal timbre house (i liked the tree trunk as the staircase and the fergie tractor of course!!)

Is it me or does Kevin McLeod make every show seem like a world changing design? The best was the live show when they put the house up in 1 week. Straw bales!! Ha! Didnt they realise that its nigh on impossable to bale bales to the same length with less than 6inch tolerance! Who ever came up with the idea of inserting the bales with a Sledge hammer? Bloody builders are less accurate than Farmers!! (I should know the rest of the family are farmers!)

Yea he does make it look like it's never been done before..... but that makes the program i suppose! Also with straw bales, the problem of fire, degrading and vermin are disadvantages people seem not to think about!

We used to be dairy farmers but now its mainly beef. Its now more hobby farming rather than commercial. The old man still likes to have the odd animal knocking about on the farm. Most of the land is now let so most of the time he sits with his cronies chattin about the good old days!

I can't watch Grand Designs. I can't help feeling what a load of old boll#cks it is.
Can you imagine going to your local planning office and showing them some of the plans that these programmes use?
Unless you've got loads of dosh to keep re-applying after you've been refused permission, you'd be on a loser from the start.

We used to be dairy farmers but now its mainly beef. Its now more hobby farming rather than commercial. The old man still likes to have the odd animal knocking about on the farm. Most of the land is now let so most of the time he sits with his cronies chattin about the good old days!

Thats doesn't sound too bad to me!! lol A couple of my friends have dairy/beef herds, but they're struggling at the moment, but i think i'm right in saying the price of milk is on the up (but so is everything else )

I agree, some of those designs look so out of place, god knows what they're going to look like in years to come!!
You could keep re-applying, but i'm sure there's some back handers go on in some circumstances!!

No! Had a major scrapping session about 5 years ago and the only thing that was worth keeping was a massy 135. thats still being used!
