AGM battery advice reqd.

Wifes new to us (had 6 wks) car Audi Q5 not used for 8 days, went to move it today and was very sluggish turning over.
Tested battery and my mind says a new one is needed, but battery tester reckons recharge, but SOC percentage is zero!
I have it on a very low output charger as I type this.
What does the 9.19 MR result mean? I know it is milliohms, but how does that correlate to my battery?

Charge the battery fully and test again. To be honest with newer audis after sitting for 8 days you're lucky it started at all. Most of them struggle after 3 or 4 days. When that battery does fail it won't fail gradually it'll just suffer a sudden failure with no warning.

That is pretty much my normal rule, but 250 quid has made me falter a bit, plus I am going to speak to the used car dealer and see what they have to say.

A ten year old battery, even an AGM is pushing it a bit.
Otoh, you could just keep it going and see how long it lasts - my factory Tranny battery (calcium doped AGM) lasted for 13 * years and was sold on with the van, but there was virtually zero overnight drain on it.
Otooh, a battery in a car with a few things draining it, will last shorter.

It was a 2000 Mk6 and I sold it in around 2016 or 17 so there you go.
The charging system was properly set up for the type of battery, which helped enormously.

2 to 5 milliOhms seems to be the ideal internal reistance for a 12V AGM battery. 9 milliOhms might seem a little high, but that is for a battery that is pretty much flat, based on your battery analyser results. The internal resistance should tend to decrease as the battery is charged.

This is quite a timely thread as I'm currently looking to replace the original AGM battery in my 2017 Jaguar. TBF, I think 8 years isn't too bad even though the Halfords lead acid battery I put into my GT6 in around 2008 only finally gave up the ghost last year!

Good point, but at 10 years old I suspect its had it, as soon as winchwomans battery gets to about 6 years I just change it.

Full charge and then a discharge test at 1/20th the rated capacity (so it would take 20h for a new one). If the result is over 50% capacity, its still good for a few more trouble free years.

25-30% consider replacing it, you'll have issues in winter.

I can't help with the main question but another big up for Tayna. I just replaced my Sorento battery (12 years old!) and got the correct Yuasa one for £100 delivered. Halfords wanted £185.

Tanya are based in Wales - as is Yuasa!
Obviously Yuasa are Japanese but their Welsh factory employs a good few hindered people. And they actually manufacture there. We shipped a full load of lead there the other day. Driver said he was down to 20mph on some of the Welsh Valleys roads
The lead is in shaped forkliftable ingots. Bit heavy for the pallets

To keep a balanced view of Tayna, and I made a post at the time a few months back. The battery was delivered with a low voltage and when fully charged, did not recover to a higher voltage that one would expect from a new battery, indicating it had degraded.

Of the top of my head, it was stuck a maximum of 12.2 or 12.3v, indicating old stock that had been discharged for some time.

Their sales guy admitted immediately that the numbers were poor but insisted they were new, pristine stock. He offered a replacement but my dad wanted his car back on the road that day, rather than a lengthy return, so we kept it.
I expect it will last several years shorter than a decent one would have.

I would definitely have sent it back. Should easily go over 13V if not more.

Yes apparently the ice symbol means agm, though the charger is at least 13 yrs old so I might be wrong!

Well came home form work today and the charger had finally gone from red to green, must have been on charge for at least 36 hrs, not sure on charge rate but know it is low amps wise.
In my simple mind 69 percent means it has pretty much had it.
Anyway tested again and it is much better, but I can see when the weather turns it is going to need a new one.

I've had 10+ batteries from Tayna and never had an issue.

Yuasa are by far the best imho, I've also had good results with Bosch.
