Hello and firstly a big thank you to all those who contribute to this forum, it's been a godsend.
My job at present is a service engineer for an electronic instrument company, nothing overly technical, I fit weighing systems to heavy plant and farm machinery amongst other things, this occasionally involves a small amount of stick welding and I mean small so although I used to do a lot of welding many years ago in another life, mig included but I've forgotten it. It's not like riding a bike for me anyway.
Why am I here? Well with retirement fast approaching I felt the need to get something going that might hopefully keep me busy and provide a small income and no doubt as many before me have done I settled on wrought iron work or my interpretation of it, as yet still looking for a niche that might be viable.
So off I went a bought a Clarke mig welder, now talk about fun and games I hadn't seen anything like it until I came on here and found out it wasn't just me. I had problems with the gas supply, welding the tip to the shroud, bird dropping look alike welds and blowing holes in everything as well as not being able to see where I was going.
Reading on here has just about got me through these problems, I now have a Hobbyweld bottle which has made a huge difference, spent hours practicing what I've read on here and the latest thing after reading about cheater lenses, I can now see where I'm going.
If this forum hadn't been so helpful I wouldn't be here, so you've only got yourselves to blame, it would be nice to think that sometime in the future I might be able to offer some help, but don't be holding your breath I've a long way to go.
Thanks.
Chris.
