Aftermarket sump plug

I’ve just replaced diff oil on my M2 and fitted an aftermarket magnetic sump plug.
However now I’m having doubts about it as there’s no mating surface on it other than the threads which have a red sealant on them
Here’s a picture and one of the original, the original gets torqued to 25 NM and has a mating surface with an inbuilt sealing ring.
The aftermarket one I just wound it in until it was flush, it doesn’t butt up to anything.
Think I’ve talked myself out of this now as if that came out when driving I’d be needing a new Slip diff and they’re not cheap.
What’s your thoughts?

buy one the same as the original one with a lip on

land rover have done it that way for fifty years or more ,,, they never move . if it bothers you put the old one back in and buy a ndyme [ neodinium / rare earth ] magnet and stick it on the outside of the bung , it will do the same job

Unlikely it would come out but as they're so different I'm surprised you fitted the new one.
The one you've fitted will most likely be a tapered thread.

Yeh I’ll drain it again tomorrow and fit the original, didn’t feel like a tapered thread, it was a bit sticky going in due to the sealant on the threads but at no time was it tight, it’s not leaking I’m just concerned it may come out, only bought it as the original is not magnetic.
Oh well smelly oil time again tomorrow, diff oil stinks.

2nd option, thin locknut on the end of the bung, wind in the plug then snug up the locknut.

Well I feel like a right tool, went into the cupboard to get the new spark plugs I’d bought ages ago and found this beside them,

That one I fitted was not the magnetic plug I’d bought after all, god only knows what it was off, it just happened to have the same threads, refitted the correct one and all is well.

Found a matching one for the engine sump beside it, only after I’d changed the engine oil, oh well I’ll fit that next year,
