after a new mig but what to get?

Currently have an old Clarke 150 but after somthing with a bit more power. Weld car panels and thickness upto 4mm. Needs a euro for torch, smooth arc and wire feed and take a bottle at the back, pub gas. is only for hobby use but without hobby quality. Around £350. Thinking of a gys 162 smart mig?

I have a GYS 162 and love it.

My previous welder was a SIP and was going to change it for a Clarke, but couldn't stop thinking that they looked very similar.. Whilst I have no doubt the Clarke is better than my SIP, I still couldn't justify the 'upgrade'.

But the GYS feels like a different beast.. I am VERY happy with mine.. My welds are infinitely better with the GYS.. The whole thing just feels right.. ANd the welds I have done look perfect.

Go for it.. I am sure you won't regret it. Its just a shame that after I bought mine a few months back, they seem to have put the prices up by £15.

What thickness have you welded with? It says on the front 4mm+ but what does it go up to before it looses penetration. Could you post some pictures of it? Were the wire feed is etc. With the gas conversion what do you get? A reg and a hose?

I can easily do 4mm with it.. And I have been assured it could do 6, but I assume extra preparation would be needed (i.e bevelling the edges). But from a domestic plug socket, its about the max you can go.

As for the photos, I will get some if you want..

When you buy it, you get the welder and the hose is included, so you need to buy a regulator.

Its small.. Smaller than my old SIP 150.. And its very nicely made with good quality internals.

You really won't be disappointed, but I will take some photos over the weekend for you, showing how it looks with a 10L bottle on the back.

Go for a Clarke, from machine mart and you can have my VAT off voucher if you dont already have 1 will let you get a £400 machine for around £350 just PM me if u wnat it

like i said on before, i own a gys smartmig 162, had it for just over a year now, no probs at all, and i have welded 6mm easy with it, the only prob is
the earth clamp cable i think its a bit short apart from that, get one bought
they realy worth it....

Just another idea. If Im spending a lump of cash on a mig for a £150 more i can get a tecarc 181. But could you justify the cash on a hobby which the machine might sit fir longish periods before use?

Anyone? Can afford a tecarc but can't justify if its worth it in the long run? Wouldn't have to upgrade again that's for sure and have less limits on what thickness I can weld. Maybe overkill for hobby use?
