Advice please - starting a new job Monday

I'm starting a new job Monday obviously I need to take my tools, but because the interview didn't involve a walk round the place, I'm not sure what to expect.

So do I turn up with my full tool kit roll cab and top box, like I wean business, or do I just go with a bag of essentials and hope I don't need something I may need as I don't know exactly what to expect.

Turn up with a kit bag of essentials and state from the off that you brought these because it wasn't made clear what you were expected to bring. Shows initiative and puts the onus on them to do their prep work properly.

If it was me and I had a vehicle to transport them easy , I would take them.

if you have a van, load the van up, take the tool bag in with you and if you need anything else its in the carpark. if you don't have a van then I would just take essentials as above

They won't fit in my car so I would need to have them dropped off.

Had a stroke 13 years ago mate. Thats why I am up half the night . No point in sleeping as i will have to wake up. she tends to stay in after 2pm onwards though.

Its not but she is happier loosing the use of her right side and speech than working were she was.......I retired early from Fire service. If I can get some cash from a few jobs on the lathe or welding or similar. , life will be what we make of it. But thanks......many people worse of than us...sadly

Ok so the first week at the new job is over, I decided with going equipped with all my tools, turns out I have more tools in my work box than they have ever seen they where amassed by what I call normal.

Anyway the job itself is ok, the people are ok, but what I am not happy with is the way I'm told the overtime works.

At the interview I was asked if I was ok with working overtime when required, witch I am. But that's not the way it is I have now found out that you are expected to work at least 3 out of 4 weekends a month and you must put a request in to have a weekend off! Also the weekend hours vary dramatically I'm told that last weekend they worked 3pm - 8 pm Saturday and Sunday. Now to me that's a total right off of a weekend.

Am I right in thinking that this is not normal practice and unreasonable?

I would suggest that is what this country is turning into. Far from wanting "full" employment the employers want "zero hours contracts"

lets be honest 1. The work has to be done when it can be and its needed. Sounds like you are actually being required to be working a 50 hour week across 7 days as opposed to a 40 hour week.

NOW....the problem is do you want the job. As I am sure they will say if you cant work when needed you are no good to them. With so much unemployment, especially "hidden unemployment" employers have the upper hand.

For your information my son works for jewsons and his normal working month is 6 days a week for two weeks and 5 days a week for the other two weeks and this is normal.

Not what you want to hear I know but thats the way the world is going I am afraid.......
