Advice please . renewing driving license @70.

Need to renew my licence soon @70, can somebody clarify the tech spec Please . Although I used to drive lorries , up to 6.5 ton with 3.5 ton trailer I have no need these days , I want the capability though to drive up to 3500kg truck plus 3500kg trailer . So am I right in thinking a straight licence renewal is right ? and that I dont need C1/D1 any more . currently have A,B1,B,C1,D1,BE,C1E,D1E,fklnpq.
if I do a straight renewal will it still incude A,B1,B and BE. appreciate your replies.
So in effect I wont need a D2 application and full med certificate for renewal saving some pennies. I would also like to keep agricultural tractor on my license.

I think if you wish to keep the ability to tow 3.5Kg then you need the full medical unfortunately. Other people may be more upto date than me.

I wanted to keep C1 & D1 and found a place that would do the medical for about £50. So not too expensive.
Much cheaper than local GP's which were £100+ and were probably too busy anyway.
But I will let them go at 73 I think.

from what I have checked B1 allows 3500 towing , updated a fewyears back , hence why I am double checking. thanks

In the UK it has to be renewed when you get to 70, then every 3 years afterwards.

The 7.5 ton drops off unless you keep it going, with older entitlements I believe you can still drive a 3.5 tonner with a trailer up to its max train weight, that can be up to 11 tons all in with some cases on a car license.

Your (photocard) license has expiry dates for every category it lists so in that respect the info. is only hidden in your wallet.

just renewed mine and loose cat 3 otherwise you couldnt renew online.no great loss

They don't run out as such but they do have to be renewed every 10 years unless things have changed.

And no you don't always get the reminder, sent or not.

Some poor schmuck and many others found that out the hard way, having found the licences had expired, they were told they would have to retake their tests.

The DVLA were adamant on it, they did after some criticism budge a bit by announcing they would renew expired licenses it the holders could prove where they had passed the test, when/date.

This was a few years ago, DVLA records might not be up to date, "prove it" was the response from them and was up to the licence holders to do so.

Hopefully things are much better organised at the DVLA but I think not after replacing my licence recently, receiving it, my photo, someone else's name and the signature wasn't the name on the licence.
