Hi all,
I'm guessing there is nothing that can be done to sort this but thought I'd ask on the off chance.
Investigating a leak on gearbox and have found it is coming from the input shaft seal.
It seems to have rust on it and having gently cleaned it off with some fine scotchbrite it appears pitted where I think the sealing lip runs.
Anything at all I can do it situ to improve it?
A 2nd hand box could bring other problems, a recon box would not be worth it given the value of the vehicle and a new input shaft is too much work to rebuild 'box.
Not entirely sure how it has got so badly rusted. It seems to have rusted 'oil side' so can only presume it has at some point been left out without the seal. It's obviously a second hand box in it already, and I can see someone has already had a previous seal out of it and helpfully scored the housing (hoping RTV will solve that)
