advice on making an approximation of this?

They could be cnc punched or laser cut, then curves step bent and the corners welded. The welds could be blended if necessary, though if clean I would leave them, as part of the custom look.

The item in the photo was an american made suitcase. I dont think theyre made any more.

Ive considered just buying used items on american ebay and refinishing them (they are not rare or anything) but i dont need an exact replica, so im wondering about the process required to make a good aproximation.

This is the original, it must be pressed, but i would be fine with the idea of a weld seam in each corner, and then flatted back before paint IF that were possible.

Im just not sure where to start. I would need to outsource the forming as i cant do that here.

I'd recommend watching Ron Covell's recent youtube series where he makes a dustpan. A lot of the hammer forming techniques you'd need for something like that are in his videos.

Making from scratch is an awful lot of work when you can buy them from USA. I'm betting that the Chinese make copies as well !

That looks a lot like the type of cases made as portable voting booths. I acquired several at a salvage yard and repurposed one for an Astronomy field desk.

I've made (wooden) cases in the past, for small batches the cost of corners + hinges + catches + handles + time all mounts up, great as a learning exercise but I'd advise looking for something ready-made to save time & money unless you can charge to make it worthwhile.
