Advice on equipment

I am totally new here and am looking for some advice on which type of welder to purchase. I would like to fabricate a pair of drive gates out of 40 X 40mm box section 3mm wall thickness. Also to fabricate a fence from 3mm or so thickness mild steel and 16mm solid round bar. Which type of welder would be best suited to this type of work? MIG or Arc ? Also what power in Amps would the welder need to have? Thanks in advance, all comments and advice greatfully received. great site btw

budget around £600 or £700. Any paticular make better than others?

welcome to the forum, with that budget you should have no problem at all, it might be worth sending a pm to weldequip on here, he's a very friendly supplier and he wont try selling you something you dont need/want he's supplied alot of welders to people on here with no problems.

an alternative would be to keep an on ebay for a good quality second hand welder, if you find a welder you want have alook on other threads to see what people have to say about them so you know whether to avoid it or not.

i just typed it in google, as for the lincoln when i typed that in nothing came up im guessing '213' was a typo

It may be a typo hence the (?). I've just got into my office but I'm afraid I've binned the flyer. Could be worth a call though. W/A

That sort of budget you'll get something decent, with a roll of wire, gas regulator and some tips thrown in. Might even stretch to something over 200amp if you shop around.
Got hold of a nice Kemppi kit from my local supplier a couple of years back for £750 cash and it's a lovely machine

I would go for a Lincoln 185 they only cast £440 = VAT . I had a Cebora w rew year back . When I changed it for the same size Lincoln my welding changed for the better that day . The 185 is a lovely machine to weld with .

I bought a Lincoln 225 amp I think it was but could not get away with it . I think the problem was we don’t get enough power through the mains for it. we are very rural.

The lincoln is the powertec 231c (not 213) £650 ish IIRC, I had looked at it as a replacement for mine as well

I've got two Kemppi machines myself, both nice machines but with only 12 months guarantee and a limited dealer network coupled with expensive spares, not sure that I would buy another. W/A
