advice on electric shavers please

I've got this Philips Philishave HQ6890 - it's about 25 years old and I've replaced the blades once (£26 I think - though they didn't really need it) and replaced the batteries too ( £6 NiMh). It's been brilliant and though it did cost about £100 must have saved a fortune over a wet shave.

Mine is the model before it. Used daily. 4 months between charges and original blades

I shave my head right down to the wood. I tried using an electric shaver but it just doesn't do the same smooth job. Maybe things have moved on. Has anyone got something that works?

Have you tried a chisel? I've heard good reports.

Yes, that's specifically why I got mine; they weren't cheap (as per previous post) as they're the Japanese made Panasonic models; bought the first in Australia a year ago, then the second a few months later - got a relative there to post it over. Down to the wood for me too, you have to keep doing so regularly.

I do go to the barber one a month or so, as I'm hopeless at keeping the beard presentable; he uses a Wahl Vanish shaver and its bloody good:

I use my Panasonic, the barber the Wahl - both on the head. I've seen the Wahl available a lot less than Amazon are selling it at, if I didn't have enough shavers already I'd give it a punt.
