Hi all,
Noticed after lockdown that one rear disc on my van wasn't scrubbing off the rust as well as the other, after a drive one disc is hot, the other cold/luke warm, have gone over it and it seemed like the automatic handbrake adjustment isn't working. Sliders and pads are all free.
I wound back both calipers, and went back through the handbrake adjustment procedure.
I found the NSR caliper doesn't hold the piston next to the pads, when you release the brake pedal it retracts all the way back out?!
Any ideas if this is fixable or is it new caliper time?
Long version with more details below.....
The OSR (that works as intended), brings the pads close to the disc and the piston stays there. The NSR will apply the brake if you pump it but as soon as you release the brake pedal the piston retracts all the way back out again, instead of taking up the slack and holding it just against the pads.
Something is wrong with the caliper but I don't fully understand what, can the piston become detached from the acme thread inside?
For now I have manually rotated the piston out, brakes and handbrake are fine but it obviously won't take up the wear.
Anyone know if its fixable or new caliper time?
